2016
The Student Art Exhition is becoming a tradition! This was its third year.
This year the theme was World Cultures, and four classes from local middle and high schools participitated. Thanks go to their teachers, Francine Kontos, Shelley Quintin, Sandy Blanc, Bonnie Dubois, Kate Freear. and Joe Boucher.
The exhibit took place at the May 21 & 22 Open House.

All our Open Houses had events associated with them
The Caterpillar Lab joined us for the second year:
Wildlife Encounters came for their second year...very educational.

We sponsored an Artisan's Fair. We will do that again...it was well attended.
One Special Open House, 'A Walk in the Words', combined literature and gardens:
...poets (here is the renown David Ferry)...
...and music (with the Oyster River Jazz Band):
There were many other activities: writing Haikus, story tellings, a word garden and more.

Then we closed the year with the First Annual Fairy and Hobbit House Festival, quite the success!
People arrived by the bus loads:
to visit (and build) our fairy and hobbit houses:
with our own scrumptious fairies:
We had music every Saturday thanks to a wonderful band called Dale's Jazz Lab:
and a bluegrass band with Melissa Bragdon instructor on a Sunday too;
We sponsored an art show:
Meghan Samson had an exhibit of ceramic heads. Here she is next to one.
We hosted Mastway Elementary School:
The entire Mastway School visited one Friday. All 275 of them.
They rotated thru activity stations. One child said it was the best day of school she ever had had.
And threw a concert:
Tj Wheeler, renown bluesman, performed with tap dancing by Ayan Imai-Hall, and a suprise appearance by master saxaphonist, Charlie Jennison.
Visitors
We had lots of visitors:
Art Students from other schools
Girl Scouts
The Granite State Ambassadors
The neighbors
Louise White's Writing class
and Yoga classes...three different groups: Symmetry, Peace Tree, and Awakening Grace.
The Community
We launched a new undertaking in the Town of Lee: Lee in Bloom!
We started with a 1000 sq ft area in front of Mastway School that was empty, and prepared it:
We planted tulips with the help of the Mastway Elementary students, who did an entire project on bulbs:
When done, and plants were added, it looked a little thin:
But then the tulips burst forth:
The students loved it:
and it shone from then until the fall, including the Hairy Balls in the plant on the left:
We were in Lee's 250th anniversary parade to celebrate "Lee in Bloom".
Other Events
Bedrock Gardens is a good place to have a wedding.
The Property
The Torii
Here I am cutting the swoops out of 8"x16"x14' lumber
Putting the swoops on
And how it looks today:
We made a Gnome Home...
...burned grasses
Friends of Bedrock Gardens
Very important event: We met with some horticultural giants from gardens from Pennsylvania to Maine for two days, and they hammered out a report that will serve as the foundation for our strategic plan. Funded by a grant from the NH Charitable Foundation.
Of Interest
We continue with our love affair with animals:
More turkeys than usual. This tom was next to the house.
Jill had her second hip replaced. Went home the afternoon of her surgery. Took no pain meds except Tylenol. Walking well within a week. Shortly she was climbing trees and doing yoga without a problem. Now that is what I call successful surgery!
We are rewarded for our work...
All good things must come to an end...
YUM!
