VISITOR INFORMATION
AccessibilityThe main circulation path is about ¾ mile, but there are occasional shortcuts. There are no really steep hills or any steps on the main route. On the side routes, there is uneven surfaces or steps in specific gardens like the rock garden, or the tea house and other ‘rooms’.
The main circulation path surface is either grass, packed wood chips, or compacted dirt. See below for some images. The wood chips will be a problem for most: sometimes they are deepish, and may present a navigation challenge. Lots of times there are way around them. |
We have spoken to a person in a self-propelled wheelchair, who said it was no problem. A scooter with fat tires reported no problems, but a scooter with small street or house tires will have problems. A regular wheelchair with thin tires will probably not be able to make it.
We have handicapped accessible bathrooms and van accessible parking spots.
We also offer an Accessibility Tour. It is an overview tour with our accessibility golf cart. See more here.
Also, if you do come, please let us know what you thought! We need the feedback from an accessibility point of view.
