WHAT ARE THE HOURS YOU ARE OPEN?Our Hours are 10–4. If your car is still in the parking area at 4:30, it will be locked in. To learn more, you can either follow us on the website or on FaceBook, or sign up for our newsletter. DON'T YOU HAVE OTHER EVENTS?We do have special events that occur at different dates and times, such as our Fairy Hobbit House Festival on Columbus Day weekend. They vary by date and year, learn more on our Program Page at , here. DO YOU ALLOW PETS?Thank you for leaving your pet at home. The exceptions are service animals (not including emotional support pets), which are welcome. CAN WE VISIT ON OTHER DAYS?The Garden will not be open to the public except at the hours posted. WHAT ABOUT STAYING FOR PICNICS? CAN WE BRING WINE?Picnickers are welcome. The rule is, "Pack it in, pack it out." What you pack in (and out) is up to you. WHO MAINTAINS THE GARDEN?Up until recently, Jill and Bob have done all the work. Jill loves to mow, weed, and prune. And make messes. Bob attends to the infrastructure, chainsaws, uses the big boy toys, and cleans up messes. Over the past 3 to 5 years, they have had increasing help from the volunteer arm of Friends of Bedrock Gardens, with such support as spring and fall cleanup days, and the Hands in Dirt program. You, too, could be part of this. See our "volunteer" webpage here. DO YOU USE PESTICIDES OR FERTILIZERS?No, we do not use pesticides at all. Instead of fertilizer we use compost. HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN WORKING ON THIS ANYWAY?Jill and Bob bought this abandoned dairy farm in the early 1980s. The first decade or two were spent clearing the scrub filled fields, getting rid of acres of poison ivy, and putting in infrastructure such as the wildlife pond and trails. WHAT ARE THOSE NOISY BIRDS RANGING FREE ON THE PROPERTY?They are Guinea fowl, originally from Africa. We have raised them, mostly from chicks ("keats"), for 10 or 12 years, but the attrition rate is high from predators such as foxes, hawks, and others. Sometimes we have to view them like annuals, replacing them every year. You can tell the difference the sexes because they make different noises. Females go "Bok-Bok" like "buckwheat". The males just go "Bok Bok Bok..." Easier for them, I guess. ANY SUGGESTIONS FOR PLACES TO EAT?You bet. we have a list of them that you can find at here. |
