Bedrock Gardens invites applications for its first-ever Artist-in-Residency (AiR) Program, offering artists of all disciplines the opportunity to create site-specific or garden-inspired work within our unique landscape. This residency supports creative practitioners exploring the intersection of art, nature, and community engagement across a wide range of media and practices. Artists will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in their work, with full access to the garden as a source of inspiration.

This residency supports creative practitioners exploring the intersection of art, nature, and community engagement across a wide range of media and practices. Artists will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in their work, with full access to the garden as a source of inspiration.
Residency Goals
- Encourage the creation of new work that responds to the natural environment, plant life, and atmosphere of the garden.
- Provide artists with time and space for creative exploration and experimentation across disciplines.
- Foster meaningful interaction between the artist, visitors, and the surrounding community.
- Support interdisciplinary approaches that connect art, ecology, and public engagement.
- Length: 2.5 months
- Season: Spring/Summer (June 21 – September 7)
- On-site presence: Artists must commit to spending 20 hours per week onsite
Eligibility
- Open to emerging and established artists working in any discipline, including but not limited to visual arts, sculpture, installation, and interdisciplinary work.
- Applicants must be 18 years or older.
- Collaborative teams are welcome to apply
Provided by the Sculpture Garden
- Studio/Work Space: Access to a studio in the barn as well as outdoor spaces throughout the garden.
- Honorarium: $2,500 for participation.
- Exhibition Opportunity: A culminating exhibition, installation or public presentation in the garden.
Expectations of the Artist
- Develop and/or present a body of work during the residency.
- Provide weekly updates to be shared on social media.
- Engage the public through one or more programs each month, such as:
- Artist talks, readings, or studio visits
- Workshops, demonstrations, or participatory events
- Performances, guided walks, or open work sessions
- Submit documentation and a short written reflection at the end of the residency.Follow all safety and environmental guidelines of the garden.
Selection Criteria
- Artistic excellence and innovation across disciplines.
- Relevance of the proposed work to the landscape and mission of the garden.
- Feasibility within available time, budget, and resources.
- Potential for public engagement and educational impact.
Application Requirements
- Artist statement (500 words)
- Proposal outlining intended project or approach (up to 1 page)
- CV or résumé (2 pages max)
- 5–10 samples of recent work (images, writing samples, audio/video links, or other relevant documentation)
- Optional: additional links to websites, publications, or installations
