Overview
- Bedrock Garden invites applications for its first ever Artist-in-Residence (AiR) Program, offering artists the opportunity to create site-specific or garden-inspired work within our unique landscape. This residency supports artists exploring the intersection of art, nature, and community engagement. Artists will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in their art practice, with full access to the garden to draw inspiration.
Residency Goals
- Encourage the creation of new sculptural work that responds to the natural environment, plantings, and atmosphere of the garden.
- Provide artists with time and space for creative exploration and experimentation.
- Foster meaningful interaction between the artist, visitors, and the surrounding community.
- Artists will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in their art practice, with full access to the garden to draw inspiration.
Residency Duration and Expectations
- Length: 2.5 months
- Season: Spring/Summer (June 21-September 7)
- On-site presence: Artists must be committed to spending 20 hours a week onsite
Eligibility
- Open to emerging and established artists working in sculpture, installation, land art, or related media.
- Artists must be 18 years or older.
- Collaborative teams are welcome to apply.
- Studio/Work Space: Artists will have access to a studio space in the barn and outdoor space in the garden.
- Honorarium: $2,500 for participation.
- Exhibition Opportunity: A culminating exhibition, installation, or public presentation in the garden.
- Create a body of work during the residency.
- Provide weekly updates to be used on Social Media
- Engage the public through one or more programs each month such as:
- Artist talks or studio visits
- Workshops or demonstrations
- Guided walks or open work sessions
- Provide documentation and a short written reflection at the end of the residency.
- Follow all safety and environmental guidelines of the garden.
- Artistic excellence and innovation.
- Relevance of proposed work to the landscape and mission of the garden.
- Feasibility within available time, budget, and materials.
- Potential for public engagement and educational value.
- Artist statement (500 words)
- Proposal outlining intended project or approach (up to 1 page)
- CV or résumé (2 pages max)
- 5–10 images of recent work (JPEG)
- Optional: links to video or installation documentation
- Application Deadline: May 1st
- Notification: May 15th
- Residency Period: June 21st thru September 7th
- Public Presentation: TBA
